ESSAY QUESTIONS
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
Government should be as limited as possible. We should create an environment that is friendly to economic growth and job creation, not an imposing presence that regulates and taxes businesses overly so.
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.
Parents should have choices, plain and simple. Since education is public, we should do the best that we can to provide top notch facilities and teachers, but in all cases the parents should have choices, whether it's vouchers, charter schools, etc.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
Just having the opportunity to serve is humbling. Having the ability to help others.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
After serving for 10 years, I can tell you that being a good listener is the best quality you can have. Most of the time, people just want to feel like their voices are being heard, and I always try to listen more than I talk.
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?
I wish the teacher's union automatic deduction bill that Rep. Spivey ran last year would have passed. It would have eliminated the ability of unions to automatically draft union fees from teachers' paychecks.
