Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
I believe that government does not create jobs, but it can assist in protecting current jobs and recruiting jobs to Tennessee.
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.
I have seen many changes in education since coming into office. I believe many of these changes have happened too fast, and our teachers and students are unable to keep up with the changes. If we could legislate parental involvement we would not have the problems we have in education - IT ALL STARTS IN THE HOME!
We also need to put DISCIPLINE back into the classrooms!
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
For me, the most satisfying part of being a state legislator is knowing that I am helping make a difference in people's lives. I do this without praise or accolades, and I would like to keep it that way. I enjoy knowing that I do all that I can to help those around me.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
I believe that being a business owner has served me most as a state legislator. Over the years, I have had to manage several aspects of a business: time, employees, and finances. In my years of being a business owner, I have had the opportunity to speak with many people in my district, furthering my communication skills.
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?
I would say it was not a bill but an amendment to the budget where we spent $17 million dollars on a piece of property for a West Tennessee Camp when we already had property bought and paid for that was suitable for the site.
I would have liked to amended the state budget. Last year, we spent $17 million taxpayers dollars on a piece of property for a West Tennessee camp, when the state already had bought property previously. The land that we had bought before was suitable for the site, and the extra $17 million spent was unnecessary.
