Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
Should be very active, so all Tennesseans may have opportunities for a better life.
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.
State Government for the funding aspect....parents, local governments and school boards for making the decisions locally to make schools better.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
When I served in the Legislature from 1986-94, I was a prime sponsor and helped pass "The Parental Notification and Consent Act"....which said a female under the age of 18 cannot go into an abortion clinic in Tennessee and get an abortion without the prior knowledge and consent of a parent.
Sponsored the "BEP Act" which changed the funding formula for education in Tennessee and allowed rural counties to get their fair share of state monies.
Sponsored the "Better Roads Act" of 1987 which resulted in the four-laning of Hwy U.S 43 in Lawrence County...(approximately 36 miles)
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
Being able to tell the truth....the drive to work hard and have the ability to listen.
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?
I have always had a problem with anyone taking a firearm to a little league baseball game or a place that sells alcohol. Just don't think it's a good idea to mix guns with emotions or alcohol.
