ESSAY QUESTIONS
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
State government plays an important role in promoting a business-friendly economic environment with low taxes, a well-educated workforce, and limited regulation.
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?
The state should promoted a child-first policy. Public education serves most children well but parents with children in underperforming schools need an option to place their chid in a school that best serves the child’s needs, whether public or private.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
As a surgeon and military officer, I have served three combat tours as a combat trauma surgeon. The greatest honor in my life is the privilege of carrying for America’s fallen heroes and warriors.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
I have served my nation as a military officer and combat surgeon, my community as a physician and county commissioner, and my state as an incumbent state senator.
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?
I wished we had passed a voucher bill permitting children in failing schools to have a voucher to offset part of the tuition of attending a private school.
