ESSAY QUESTIONS

ESSAY QUESTION 1:
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.

My belief in state governments role in relation to economic growth is simple. The less government is involved the freer and better our economy will be. Government does not create jobs or growth, in fact it is a stumbling block for both. As a state Legislator currently I have made it my aim to push back and prevent laws that hinder capitalism.

ESSAY QUESTION 2:
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?

I am not in favor of school vouchers simply because of the age ol formula of where government money assists, government control prevails.
My concern for vouchers is the freedom it will take away form your private schools preferably Christian teaching schools. It is only one law suit away form that christian school having to fund law suits versus teaching students christian beliefs and values because some parent doesn't like the teaching of classical, Constitutional and biblical studies.
Parents have choice where to send their children currently. It is called work an extra job, and pay for your childs education without the help of government coupons.

ESSAY QUESTION 3:
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?

Being a wife, mother and now a grandmother of two, a singer/songwriter who spent 25 years on the road sharing the Gospel thru song, and currently the elected choice of House District 40 for 5 terms are accomplishments that continue to satisfy and give me such a grateful heart. In every capacity, I have made it my goal to serve and allow Jesus Christ to BE light in and through me. Perfect.... Absolutely not, but under His grace I make it my aim to be available to serve Him better, the Community where I live and the people whom I love. Making a difference in the world around me is what truly satisfies me. I believe that I have for such a time as this.

ESSAY QUESTION 4:
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?

The ability to listen, because not everyone agrees on everything, it is vital to hear what both sides of the issues are. That helps me understand the thought patterns or the reason why folks believe the way they do in order for me to make decisions best for those whom I represent. To have civil debates and agree to disagree is a most basic quality of a true Republic. Our Founders where correct in saying that our Republic can only survive where morals, values and religion are prevalent. Being a Christian in the public square is vital and our voice is needed. Societythrives best with self governed people who are biblically based. My tenure as a state representative is to my advantage for it has afforded me a huge learning curve, one I am grateful to have the opportunity to experience.

ESSAY QUESTION 5:
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?

This was not a bill last year but my first year in office and that was that Race to the Top bribe money from the feds!!! It has ruined our education freedom and changed the way teachers teach in a classroom for years to come!!! I would love to take that vote back! The money brings with it the rules the states have to follow. Will there ever be true 10th amendment sovereignty for the states when it comes to education? I truly hope so. To this day I continue to work towards that end with various legislation to get 10th Amendment standing back to Tennessee.
I wish we would have passed the HB the would have Attorney Generals to be elected by the people. Then the attorney General would be beholden to the people and not the Governor who put him in that office.
