Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
Limited government that cuts spending and does not raise taxes. Economic growth and job creation should be a by product of cutting regulations and restrictions that hamper businesses. State government should be enabling the private sector and not limiting them. Government cannot be all things to all people. We must have the strongest state government that is providing quality services to the citizens, but not creating more programs that cause the citizens to rely on government handouts.
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?
I support this endeavor in our poorer and lower performing schools ONLY.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
Leading hundreds of inmates to Jesus in 1993 in Green River Prison. Because of the hard life my family lived and seeing my brothers go to prison with no hope. It because a revolving door and one which my sister would end up entering. She currently is serving 39 years and I buried two of her sons while she has been locked up. So it satisfies me to preach to the imprisoned monthly.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
Being a former County Commission of eight years and a current pastor, I know the pulse of my community. I also served as the President of the TCCA (1 year) and board member for 8 years. I represented all 95 counties to stop unfunded mandates and also came and spoke out on issues that were ungodly. Locally I have worked with FACT on various issues, being a voice when no one would.
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?
gas tax-Because with the amount of funds in the surplus they could of moved forward with that. Also the Governor through his 8 years has reduced the TDOT funding and had he left it alone there would also had been no need to raise the tax.
Constitutional carry! We all have the right to bear arms in this state.
