ESSAY QUESTIONS
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
State gov't should only provide the least number of regulations and hinderances to businesses while maintaining public safety and security with appropriate protections for our natural resources. It should not pick winners and losers, allow gov't entities to compete with private businesses, or promote one entity over another.
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?
I believe that situation would not only give the parent much needed options, but would also create a level of competition for those dollars that would inherently improve the low performing school.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
Loving, guiding, and training three incredible children, (two are adults). Our Lord made each of them so unique and different but blessed me with a dedicated, loving wife that has partnered with me to teach and shape them into what they are today. With all my faults and imperfections, He worked through me to accomplish the most important task of my life.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
Qualities: patience, perseverance, conservative grounding, care & concern for others, servant attitude, problem-solving skills, efficiency-mindedness
Experiences: starting and operating a business for over 20 yrs; deacon and chair of numerous church committees; NFIB Leadership Council for many years & chair for past two (working with legislation during session)
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?
I would have voted against the Improve Act because not enough facts were revealed. Our DOT should be audited by a professional, independent firm to provide details of how the vast amounts of funds have been spent in recent years prior to proposing an increase in those funds.
