ESSAY QUESTIONS

ESSAY QUESTION 1:
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.

The proper role of the state is to create an environment that is business friendly. The proper role of the state is to assist communities in planning and adapting resources to attract businesses. My concern is when incentives are offered to relocate, then the businesses will ask for incentives to stay. The citizens of this state should not foot the bill for a bidding war with other states over business relocation.

ESSAY QUESTION 2:
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?

Parents have the right to have the chance to help their children get the best education possible. Parents in densely populated areas have access to magnet schools, while in rural areas parents have fewer options. If the schools are failing because of overcrowding or substandard facilities, then letting private or religious based schools reduce the strain makes sense.

ESSAY QUESTION 3:
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?

My favorite thing to do is anonymous charity, because the gifts given without the expectation of reward or notoriety are the truest gifts of all. Volunteering and helping neighbors give me the best rewards that bring the greatest joy to my heart.

ESSAY QUESTION 4:
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?

Knowing what it is like to face hardship and seeing firsthand the suffering that neighbors and friends go through when hit by tragedy. Victims of opioid addiction, medical crisis, victims of predatory lending, natural disasters and victims of crimes that have devastated families and communities. I want to be the one to stand up for the common man, not only to help people, but also prevent government and unscrupulous businesses from making a tragedy worse.

ESSAY QUESTION 5:
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?

Tennesseans should be upset that the Republicans and the Democrats, will not recognize the Libertarian Party, The Constitution Party or the Green Party. Do you have the moral or ethical right to require a new Political Party to a higher standard than your own exempt Political Parties? While I can say the House did the right thing (HB0662) the Senate did not (SB0770). Where are the guiding principles of equal and fair elections, or honesty and fair play. A Political Party should not be able to use the law to protect an advantage over a Political Rival.
