Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
State government sets the framework for businesses to grow and thrive. Low taxes, and less regulations equals more opportunity to grow and prosper. The State has a duty to pass a balanced budget, live within its means, and save for tomorrow to stabilize our economy and protect the taxpayers. Tennessee is ranked 7th for fiscal stability in America.
What are your thoughts about a parent of a child in a low performing public school being provided a voucher equal to the amount of the state’s per-student expenditure that would be applied toward the child’s private school tuition?
I would need more information. What is the definition of a low performing school. Are there income restrictions like in the governor’s voucher legislation. Also, in Governor’s legislation any religious school could qualify for the voucher program. I would need to see more details until I could answer this question.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
Passed legislation opening the Certificate if Need process to more competition and higher quality in healthcare, passed legislation to allow rising-sharing (Uber) in Tennessee, passed home-sharing (Airbnb) legislation protecting home-sharing and your personal property rights and I passed the first tax cut in over a decade in Tennessee - the Hall Income tax. Passing conservative legislation that protects your rights and liberties as well as breaking down government barriers that limits competition and opportunities...that is very satisfying - fighting for the people.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
Common-sense conservative. My record shows I am not afraid to take on tough or complex issues to protect the people.
What bill that passed in the last General Assembly would you have voted against and why, or what bill that was not passed in the last General Assembly do you wish had passed and why?
The governor’s bill to reduce the amount TN Hope scholarship further - I voted against it. The premise of the bill and the application of the bill was the wrong direction.
