ESSAY QUESTIONS

ESSAY QUESTION 1:
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.

I lean toward a free market, free enterpeise Nation. I don't belive government should be picking winners and losers.

ESSAY QUESTION 2:
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.

I belive that parents have the first and foremost responsibilty for the education of their children. I also believe that School Districts, at the local level, should be in charge of curriculum and what is being taught to their students. They understand the local needs best. I don't believe that the federal giovernment should be involved at all and I hope that someday soon the federal Department of Education will be abolished.

ESSAY QUESTION 3:
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?

One of the most satisfying things I have been able to accomplish is being elected as the State Representative to represent the people of District 64 which includes Mt. Pleasant, Columbia and the City of Spring Hill. I have worked very hard to make Maury County and the State of Tennessee the best place to live, work and raise a family in the United States. I believe that service to God and man is the most fulfilling life possible. I was recently asked by a student in a Civics interview if I had ever regretted running for office. My immediate comment was, "Not for one day!" I truly enjoy living a life of service.

ESSAY QUESTION 4:
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?

I am grounded in my own beliefs and able to lead and motivate others. I genuinely care about others and want to do what I can to help them in any way possible.

ESSAY QUESTION 5:
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?

I believe that Tennessee may have been in a better position legally if we had passed the "privacy bill" for locker rooms, restrooms and dorm rooms. However, I am thankful that Tennessee has joined with 13 other states in suing the federal government over the egregious abuse of power by threatening to withold funding from our schools.
