ESSAY QUESTIONS

ESSAY QUESTION 1:
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.

State governments role is to assist the people of this state to become the best they can be. Our role is to be very limited and for the most part allow the people to thrive in the absence of regulations and paperwork. The state does not create jobs but also does not hinder job creation with unnecessary regulation.

ESSAY QUESTION 2:
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.

Parents should be the first in the decision making process. They are ultimately responsible for the education and should be a part of the process. Whether the parents choose public, private or charter, ultimately that is the right of the parent and the child. The state should act as a repository of options but not the heavy hands of leadership.

ESSAY QUESTION 3:
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?

Allowing home schoolers to play sports at their local high school. Home schoolers have been relegated as a nuisance by some of our public schools but ironically they pay taxes to support our public schools and receive no benefits. Over 240 home schoolers have been able to participate in a local sports program as a result of this legislation.

ESSAY QUESTION 4:
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?

Listening and empathy are the best qualities. Growing up poor in a large family allowed me to appreciate others opinions and views.

ESSAY QUESTION 5:
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?

The BIble bill. I don't feel that God needs our help by making His book our state book. No other state has seen fit to do this or even have a state book and our forefathers who wrote our Constition could have easily done this and chose not too but allowed each man to worship God by his own conscience. The bill that did not pass that I somethings wish it did, the Bible bill. Although I explained above why, I see the slippery slope our society is on and maybe that would have been the beginning of a foothold.
