ESSAY QUESTIONS
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
The State government's role is to create a business-friendly environment by reducing taxes and regulations in order for businesses to flourish. Businesses know how to operate on their own and burdensome regulations prevent them from achieving the economic growth necessary to provide the jobs Tennesseans need.
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.
Parents should be actively involved in their children's education. Statistics show that the more parents are involved, the better the child performs in school. The state's role is to set forth standards and accountability measures for teachers and educators.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
When I was 28 years old I started a my own business, opening a Nationwide office and growing it into a very successful operation. My wife and I worked very hard in the beginning and that allowed us to provide them with a great life. They have now grown up to be successful, productive members of society and I view their lives and successes as my legacy.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
I feel the many leadership positions I've held over the years along with my job experiences have given me the necessary skills to effectively represent the people of the 14th District. The time spent with my policy holders over the year gave me a look into their lives which allows me to see things from the perspectives of people from different walks of life. I also spent time as an Ag Teacher and coach and know the importance of education in a child's life.
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?
I wish the Transgender Bathroom bill would have passed. I believe that allowing bathroom choice based on the gender one identifies as puts our children in danger by giving predators another opportunity to exploit.
