ESSAY QUESTIONS
Explain your view of state government’s role in relation to economic growth and/or job creation.
I believe the state's role in creating jobs and growing the economy is very minimal. The state must reduce regulations and taxes and stand up to federal government overreach. It is crucial that the state allow free market economics to play out because that will allow the best opportunity for job and economic growth.
Explain your views regarding the roles state government and parents have in elementary and secondary education.
I believe that local school districts have a better understanding of the specific needs of individual schools. There is no one size fits all approach to education programs and local school districts and parents should be able to make as many decisions as possible to ensure the best possible education for individual students.
What is one of the most satisfying things you have ever done or accomplished and what made it so satisfying to you?
I believe one of the most satisfying things I have ever accomplished is graduating from college with honors. Having grown up in a family where neither of my parents went to college, and my father never even graduated high school, going to college was not a guarantee much less graduating. It proved to me that no matter what your background, with hard work you can achieve anything you want.
What personal qualities or experiences do you think will best serve you in your role as a state legislator?
I believe my ability to work hard will best serve me as a state legislator. My parents taught me from a young age that no matter what anyone throws at you, you can work hard and get anything done.
What bill passed in the last General Assembly that you would have voted against and why, or what bill did not pass in the last General Assembly that you wish had passed and why?
The bill that did not pass last year that I wanted to see passed was full campus carry legislation. Allowing students who are legally able to carry to carry on campus protects all students from mass shooters.
